Selected Prompt:

Does our state do enough to prevent distracted driving?

Claim Counterclaim
While it is hard to combat against distracted driving, the state of Florida does make an effort to enforce a punishment for it, in order to try and help prevent it. Passed into law in 2019, it allows law enforcement to pull people over, and issue them citations, for distracted driving alone (in most cases texting while driving). Section 316.305 states "A person may not operate a motor vehicle while manually typing or entering multiple letters, numbers, or symbols into a wireless communications device to text, email, and instant message." Section 316.606 prohibits the use of wireless communications devices, in a handheld manner, while in a school or work zone. Although the law was passed and enforces this, there are a bunch of exceptions to it that could still pose problems, such as the manner of driving or who it is behind the wheel, therefore meaning that more still technically needs to be done.
