1.03 Citizens in Action

Dear Mr. President,

Today I am writing to you to suggest a new federal holiday. Civic participation is an important way of helping the country to keep its rights of freedom. It also helps for the government stay for the people. People being actively involved in their country helps for their country to be based off of what matters most to its people, not what the government feels like doing. I believe that there should be a national holiday to honor the late Bob Hope. He did a lot for the military through very tough times, and I feel that he should be given a holiday for his efforts.

Though Mr. Hope was not an active member of the military, he still did so much and had a great impact on those who actually were. He loved the military, and the military loved him. He was part of the United Service Organizations (USO), where he toured around entertaining the troops for more than 50 years. He dedicated his career to this, touring wherever troops were stationed throughout the world. Mr. Hope did this because he had a great sense of patriotism, also because he had immense respect for what the military does for our country. He understood what the military went through every day, giving up their lives to protect the lives of others. Throughout the Vietnam War, Mr. Hope even gave up Christmas with his own family to spend it with those who were stationed overseas.

He even had an impact outside of the military as well. He was already popular before he started entertaining the military, and of course became even more as the years went on. Now of course Mr. Hope was no famous military commander, no famous inventor, and no famous scientist. But the one reason everyone loved him, was because he could always put a smile on your face, even when you were going through rough times. Multiply that effect times every person on this planet, you have a pretty big impact on the world right there. This is why I feel that he deserves his own national holiday. To honor the great impact that he had on the world. Thank you for reading this letter.

Sincerely,

Brady Kondek
